India’s first Patent granted under the expedited examination scheme of the Government, created exclusively for Startups recognized by the Ministry of Commerce. The Patent was granted to a Jaipur based startup Newndra Innovations Private Limited on 25th July 2017, bearing no. 285574. It is surprising to note that while it takes generally 7-8 years to obtain a grant of the Patent under normal channel this startup Patent was granted in mere 9 months.

Newndra Innovations Private Limited is a Private Limited Company incorporated on 09 September 2014 under Jaipur RoC. Newndra got recognized as a Start-Up under Start-up India Action Plan through DIPP registration process (DIPP348). StratJuris Partners, an Intellectual Proprty law firm in Pune and official patent facilitators for the StartUp India Scheme, filed a patent application on behalf of Newndra on 28th October 2016, on “Refillable Writing Instrument” that got granted on 25th July 2017. This is the first ever patent granted under StartUp India Scheme which ensures expedited proceedings. StartUp India Scheme also allows expedited examination which has reduced the time for examination by substantial number of years. This is the first granted patent under DIPP Scheme in history of Indian Patent Regime. Newndra becomes the first StartUp to get its patent granted under this scheme.
